What is PST vs. PET in Government Exams?
If you are applying for uniform services like the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) through SSC GD, state police forces, or the Indian Army, clearing the written exam is only phase one. You must qualify in two physical stages:
- PST (Physical Standard Test): This is an objective measurement of your body. Officials will measure your Height, Weight, and Chest (for males). If you fall short by even 0.1 cm, you are instantly disqualified. Our analyzer verifies these exact metrics.
- PET (Physical Efficiency Test): This tests your stamina and strength, usually involving a 5KM run for males (in 24 mins) and a 1.6KM run for females (in 8.5 mins).
For male candidates, having a broad chest isn't enough. Almost all defense exams (including UP Police and Delhi Police) mandate a minimum expansion of 5 centimeters. If your unexpanded chest is 85cm, you must be able to expand it to 90cm by inhaling deeply. Failing to expand the chest is one of the most common reasons for rejection in PST.
Official Height Standards (General/UR/OBC/SC)
| Examination | Male Height | Female Height |
|---|---|---|
| SSC GD Constable | 170 cm | 157 cm |
| UP Police Constable | 168 cm | 152 cm |
| Delhi Police Constable | 170 cm | 157 cm |
| Army Agniveer (General Duty) | 170 cm (varies by region) | 162 cm (Military Police) |
ST Category Relaxations
Candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST) receive significant relaxations under constitutional guidelines. For SSC GD, the male ST height requirement drops to 162.5 cm, and the female ST requirement drops to 150 cm. Candidates from North-Eastern states and Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts receive even further relaxations.
How is Weight Calculated?
Unlike height and chest, there is rarely a strict fixed number for weight. Official notifications state that "Weight should be proportionate to height and age as per medical standards." This is generally calculated using Body Mass Index (BMI). A healthy BMI ranges between 18.5 and 25. If your BMI falls below 18.5, you may be declared temporarily unfit (underweight). If it exceeds 25, you risk rejection for being overweight.
