How to Pass the SSC CGL DEST & CHSL Typing Test?
The Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) and Typing Tests are critical qualifying stages for major government jobs. Failing this stage means disqualification, regardless of how high you scored in your Tier 1 or Tier 2 written examinations. Our Elite Typing Engine is designed to perfectly simulate the strict interface used by TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) during the actual exams.
Government commissions do not count actual English words (e.g., "I" vs "Congratulations"). Instead, they use a standardized formula where every 5 characters typed (including spaces) equals 1 word. Our engine uses this exact algorithmic formula to calculate your Gross and Net WPM.
Official Requirements (2026 Standards)
- SSC CHSL (LDC/JSA): Requires a speed of 35 Words Per Minute (WPM) in English or 30 WPM in Hindi. You must type 1750 key depressions in 10 minutes.
- SSC CGL (DEST): Requires 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes. This roughly translates to a speed of 27 WPM.
- Railway RRB NTPC: Requires 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on a computer without editing tools (Backspace is usually restricted, but practice with it first!).
Gross WPM vs. Net WPM
Your Gross WPM is simply how fast you type, ignoring mistakes. However, commissions evaluate you on Net WPM. If you type extremely fast but make 20 spelling errors, your Net WPM will crash, and you will fail the test. Accuracy is far more important than raw speed. Always aim for an accuracy rate above 95%.
